Former pop sensation, Britney Spears opened the annual 2007 MVA's with her her hit single "gimme more". After previous unflattering events Britney has encountered, It was said that the big performance would be a contribution to her big comeback. Sadly, Britney did not fufill the prediction. She started the show dressed in a sequin bra and matching underpants. She continued the show with unsatisfying dance moves and obvious lip synching.
Britney spears has lived the life of stardom for a large portion of her life. Ever since she was a member of the mickey mouse club at the age of six. She is only familiar with the lifestyle in front of the camera,and has had most of her life documented. Therefore, attempting a big comeback does not surprise me. Over the past view years, Britney has put on quite a show at the MVA's. From dancing with a large snake on her body, and publicly kissing legendary Madonna, you cant deny she has put on tremendous and shocking performances. After her not so impressive performance at this years MVA's, there were many fans and media insiders that critisized her for her lack of entertaining, and out of shape form. Even, well known comedian sarah silverman commented on Britney, just minutes after her song. Sarah stated "Wasn't that incredible? Britney Spears, everyone. Wow. She is amazing. She is 25-years-old and she’s already accomplished everything she’s going to accomplish in her life. It’s mind blowing." i Find this very insensible, there was no need for her to say a comment like this. Not only is it not funny, but cruel. Although Britney may not have put on the best show she was capable of, she did dry. Yes She could have rehearsed alot more and maybe put more inthusiasm into her dance moves. But overall, She put herself out there. She made an attempt to make a comeback, and sarah shot her back down to where she was before. Britney has been through alot in the past year, and i sympathise for her. The last thing she needs right now is more bad publicity and less respect. Sarah also said a comment about Britneys kids saying that :"they are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see!". It is one thing to make fun of her performance, but talking about her kids is unneccesary. Her children have nothing to do with Britneys performance and is just another way of attacking Britney and trying to get a crack out of the audience. In addition, Britney was also critiszed about her body. She was shown on the cover of magazines, tabloids, and websites, being attacked about her weight. People seems to be disgusted that she does not have the same body as she used to. Apparently they do not know the aftermath of having kids. What bothers we is that there was more reviewing about britneys size then her actual performance.i find this ridiculous. The MVAs is supposed to be about music and not appearance.But lately, it seems to always come back to drama and celebrity meltdowns. Critisizing Britneys body is just unfair and does not set a good example for young girls today. I think we as a society need to focus more the big picture, and pay less attention to the minor gossip on the side. The media presents celebrities in so many different ways, that we just cannot discover the real truth in anything.
